By Your Beings deals with a dream where the protagonist goes through a world of houses, their floors and landscapes in search of herself.
I'm fascinated by all living vanishing. This seemingly simple idea led to My Skin The Earth. The series was shot in Finland and Russia 2008-2010. I experimented with long exposure times and double exposure.
Set & Setting is a narrative series of works, shot entirely in sets built by me. Refining a story through building and decorating sets opened another method for me. It was liberating and playful to create an environment and scene for the story to take place in. Mostly using myself as a model I could also integrate the performance to my art. Each set is a story, dealing with various global phenomenon. Set & Setting often uses naive and comical approach to tackle more in-depth viewpoints. This is helpful with the chosen thematic, inviting the audience to participate, to imagine their version of the story. The ambiguity is essential. In the end, the way we see any story unfold, varies greatly depending how we see the world. I'm intrigued by the fact that the audience see past the obvious, the set. They can create their world with given set pieces, sort of a puzzle. My interpretation of the story is always present but not forced upon the viewer.
Set & setting on sarja lavastettuja omakuvia.
Tyypillistä töilleni on päähenkilöiden kasvottomuus.
Flower performances is a set of self-portraits shot in natural locations with flowers. Every image has an individual story but all the pieces share common characteristics: It's about flowers, breakdown, healing and the relations between man and nature.
I travelled to Lebanon in October 2011 as a guest for human rights organisation Beit Atfal Assomoud. I lived 10 days in Burj el - Shemali - A Palestinian refugee camp situated in southern Lebanon. During my stay I taught photography to the youth of the camp and learned about life at the refugee camp. Burj el -Shemali was founded in 1948. The camp holds about 20 000 people deprived of their citizen rights. This includes a ban over 70 occupations as well as the right to own land or property. Visiting Burj el Shemali - exhibition was first opened in Nunes Gallery in Helsinki in 2012.
